GOOD GRIEF!

Visited Good Grief, Charlie Brown! Celebrating Snoopy and the Enduring Power of Peanuts at Somerset House with the class on Monday. Really lovely exhibition.

I have to say I’m already quite a fan of Peanuts in general. I’ve read the strips and visited the museum in Tokyo and I’ve always loved Schulz’s work so this was a treat for me. One thing that stood out about this exhibition is how in dept and serious it is compared to the Snoopy Museum in Tokyo. It was fascinating to see how large the original strips are, all the actual tools he used to draw the comics and the simple sketches.

Another unique quality of the exhibition is all of the contemporary art that are influenced by Peanuts. It’s quite amazing to see the legacy of Snoopy and Charlie Brown living on in different mediums and artists being interpreted under different subjects from psychology to existentialism to just plain happiness.

I really do enjoyed my time in the exhibition as I can relate my work to Peanuts in some way. My latest comic book ‘QUARTER-LIFE CRISIS’ has a lot to do with the simple struggle in life, relationships and existential crisis. It is not as philosophical as Peanuts have been dissected and interpreted but I feel like I use the same rhythm and jokes as Schulz. Something funny and cute but real and sad at the same time.
