Bite size : Vernacular Images

Some small points from so many artists that was in the presentation.

  • Interestingly, Takashi Murakami who makes very dense and colourful visuals said that the greatest painting is “emptiness”.
  • Mark Leckley is somehow relatable. He feels like a freak on the edge of the dance floor watching people having fun. I get it.
  • Tom Friedman has a lot of cool points like “The form is as important as its content.” (which is really connected to what I’m trying to do) and I like that he has steps in making an artwork complete : 1) Idea 2) Material 3) Form 4) Presentation. I really admire people who have a clear method on how they work. A lot of his works rely entirely on the title as well which is interesting.

literally a white bread which is called “Untitled (white bread)” by Tom Friedman

I wish I could put a slice of bread in the gallery too.

At the end of class we had to make a vernacular map of self and I ended up going through my entire life on the A2 paper. I wasn’t sure what I was doing. Here’s the result :

I tried to fill in the large space by cutting pieces of paper into shapes and turns out I write more than I draw.
