We had a class about how we can use a research material to create further work. We had an exercise in which we had to come up with a pitch for an art fund. The pitch must be inspired by the text that we were given. My group’s text was about AR ( Augmented Reality ) and I really liked the idea of cyberspace vs physical space so this is our pitch :
Instead of turning physical space into cyberspace we are going to reverse it.
Presenting A PHYSICAL FACEBOOK.
The idea is that the viewer logs in to his/her Facebook account then enter a dark room. The viewer sits on an empty chair in the middle of the room and suddenly everything on her feed becomes physical. The status updates and the music that’s being shared comes out from the speaker simultaneously along with a projector showing all the photos and video one after the other bombarding the viewer with information overload.
This pitch / project is to reflect on the way we receive information online and how overwhelming it is when it becomes physical. We never feel it until we actually ‘face’ it.
I find that coming up with ideas in a short amount of time is what I can do and what I usually do best so I’ll have to adapt this way of thinking into my research process such as sketching one idea quickly then continue reading / researching then start sketching quickly again with new or improved information. If I can repeat this process I won’t have to feel like it takes too much time and I won’t get impatient too easily. It can also create a body of work or process that I can actually show.
