A group project on identities

After seeing the works of three female artists with different approaches to project a female body, me, Finn and Jamie decided that we were drawn to Polly Nor the most. She has the least sexual portrayal of nude female body and we want our project to be more than feminine nudity. We found a common thread in all the three artists which is about how human has different identities so I suggested that we work on our own identities. Here are the results :

Tunlaya Dunn, Chien-Yu and Finn Kidd present Identity Triptych, three individual pieces exploring self perception. Inspired by the common themes of identity and self image seen in Polly Nor, Marlene Dumas, and Signe Pierce. Each piece has four layers, the first being a neutral ID photo of the artist, then three layers of tracing paper, each with a different perceived view of the individual drawn by the artist in their preferred medium. 1-how we see ourselves, 2-how we think others see us, and 3-how we would like to be seen. Combined together, the layers create a whole identity of ourselves. Our identities are only a reflection of the people around us. Do we only exist in amongst others?

We got positive feedback and I think it turned out well as a group project. Only one criticism is that it’s a bit hard to understand which identity is which since we didn’t put labels on each tracing paper.
